INTERNET FOR EVERYBODY

In order to reduce the “numerical gap”, the Belgian Government launched a programme which allows every citizen to buy a PC and to get subscription to internet.

The package « internet for everybody » contents a computer and all the necessary software + a connexion to internet available for 1 year + a card reader compatible with the new magnetic identity card + basic set up + a basic training; for a total price of 850 € (990 € if laptop PC). Moreover 21% of the price without Value Added Tax (VAT) can be deducted from the yearly tax declaration. It’s good news, but …not for all !!!

850€ represents the monthly average income of a jobseeker ; a beneficiary of Minimum Revenue of Integration (RMI) gets on average less than 600€, meaning : for those underprivileged groups between 1 month and one and half month total income !!!

Another « dangerous » aspect is the cost that those persons will bear in order to maintain the subscription of internet after the first year, meaning : 385 € every year !!!

Afin de réduire la fracture numérique, le Gouvernement Belge a lancé une opération qui permet à chaque citoyen d’acheter un PC et d’être abonné à internet.

Le package « internet pour tous » comprend un ordinateur et tous les logiciels nécessaires + une connexion internet valable 1 an + un lecteur de cartes compatible avec la nouvelle carte d’identité magnétique + l’installation de base + une formation de base au prix de 850 € (990 € si PC portable). De plus 21% du prix HTVA pourra être déduit de la déclaration d’impôt annuelle.

Une bonne nouvelle, mais … pas pour tout le monde !!! 850€ représente le revenu moyen mensuel d’un chômeur ; un bénéficiaire du RMI touche en moyenne moins de 600€, soit, pour ces publics défavorisés entre 1 mois et un mois et demi de revenus !!!

Un autre aspect « dangereux » est le coût que ces personnes devront supporter pour maintenir l’abonnement internet après la première année, soit environ 385 € par an !!!
